Over the last few years I’ve spent a good few fistfulls of coins at Nam Long on Russel St on the humble bao. For a couple dollars who could resist grabbing a pillowy, sweet steamy bundle of joy to settle the most raucous of late night beers.
My visits to NYC had uncovered a similar phenomena – though instead of dingy Nam Long-esqu joints there were places like BaoHaus & Momofuku Noodle/Ssam Bars reinventing the humble Bao.
Fastforward to 2012 and we have Wonderbao. A family venture incorporating traditional bao with english menus, sweet branding & a couple exciting gua bao – brandishing superstar braised pork belly between delicate buns & fresh fillings.
