When you sit down to write a few words on Melbourne’s latest taste sensation and the topic at hand is meatballs, it’s always going to be a game of tug-o-war between the thirteen year old inside wanting to fill the article with innuendo and smut and the slightly more grown up version of me who knows such behavior would really just be a kick in the balls to all who read it. Damn it, there I go already.
Opening it’s doors in a rather competitive strip of Flinders Lane The Meatball and Wine Bar (MB&WB) hasn’t wasted anytime in establishing itself as a space serving delicious food (and wine) all without a hint of pretention. The hero of the room is the atmosphere setting sign above the kitchen reading ‘Meat Dept’. Designed and crafted in New York City and clearly visible from the street outside the sign gives off an inviting warmth that draws you inside the moment it catches your eye.
