De Clieu

Venture in the doors of De Clieu and you’ll immediately find a lot to love. Be it the well crafted interior put together by Six Degrees, or the cheery staff greeting you with a smile, it’s hard not to enjoy a visit to this corner of Gertrude St. The latest installment from the guys behind Seven Seeds De Clieu steps their brand up on both the retail front, offering a beautiful range of coffee brewing equipment along with some of the more inspired jams I’ve tasted recently (read: Spiced Syrian Figs & Quince Rosewater). Combined with a food menu developed by Steven Carr that boasts dishes clearly created by a man who knows what goes well together. Drop past, see for yourself, and if you’re lucky maybe you too will fall in love with a cute girl who’s journaling as she sits on one of the outside windowsill benches sipping a flat white...This sounded a whole lot less creepy in my head... Menu items include the Pork Neck Roti (page 4) with fried egg, sweet roasted Berkshire pork neck, spring onion roti and barbeque sauce for $15.50. If you brunch craving calls for a tapas/platter-esque style delivery then summon the Breakfast De Clieu (page 6), a platter of sliced fresh baguette, double smoked Grandmother ham, gruyere, soft boiled egg, tarragon mustard, jam and butter also for $15.50.
